The Problem

This project came through my work with Dov Schwartz, for one of his clients. The client asked for a landing page with several content sections, an about section, displayed reviews, and a form where visitors could leave a review. Along with the usual details like name, email, and the treatments they had, the form needed a five-star rating.

The landing page itself was simple. The star rating was the problem. Elementor’s built-in form fields do not include a star rating field.

The Options

I found a premium plugin that could potentially add the field. It meant an extra cost, and it came with more features than this project needed. I did not want to add a large plugin to the site for one small requirement, so I looked for another way.

What I Built

I read Elementor’s official documentation on adding custom form fields and found a code example that showed how to extend the form. I gave that example to an AI assistant, explained exactly what the field had to do, and had it write a small custom WordPress plugin. I defined the requirements and directed the work. The AI helped with the code.

How I Tested It

I did not put the plugin straight on the client’s site. I installed it on my own development website first and checked its parameters and any errors. After that, I installed it on the client’s website and confirmed the new field showed up in Elementor’s form builder.

Result

The form builder now has a Star Rating (Trustpilot Style) field, and the review form collects a star rating alongside the written review, treatments, concerns, appointment date, and contact details. I finished the landing page, the plugin, testing, and deployment in three days. The field is still live on the client’s website.
